Its been an exciting week!

Its been an exciting week! The Open Road Crew has spent the last few weeks getting to know each other and Seward park. This week, in addition to our usual schedule of stewardship and discussions on various social justice issues, we have done public outreach to the youth within the park. Our top issues that we are working on this summer are 1) increasing access to the park ( there is currently only one entrance/exit and teens are often seen jumping the fence to the 'teen' side of the park) 2) Improving bathroom and overall sanitation and 3) lobbying for teen programming to make Seward park a more teen friendly place.
This week has been especially productive and exciting as we are pulling together our research and creating a presentation so that we can share Open Road's Prove It campaign research, issues and goals with public officials and the community. We were fortunate enough to meet with a Community Board 3 member! We were able to hear his stories of community activism and get advice on how to pursue our goals for the summer effectively. He was an incredibly helpful resource for us!
Also, last week, one of our youth mentors attended a Friends of Seward park meeting where she was able to hear the issues that other groups were interested in resolving, share with them the issues we've identified and made important contacts. This a Friend of Seward Park met with us and invited us onto the Friends of Seward Park list serve. She was also a compassionate and humorous person who we intend to keep in touch with.
Unfortunately, our GUINYC cross site picnic was rained out, but hopefully we can all meet and have a great time next week!
